Explore the History of Rambow, Inc.
In 1978 Steve had a dream of owning and operating his own identity company.
As he began bringing this dream into reality, he was teaching 7th graders how to add and subtract fractions and 8th graders about American Government.
Steve started his part-time business, now called Rambow Sportswear Specialties from the basement of his apartment.
As you can see, the basement needed some work.
His part-time business was his passion and he focused on supplying screen print and heat seal transfer products. Could any of us even imagine starting a business on a typewriter?
In 1980 Rambow Sportswear Specialties' production area consisted of one room in the now finished basement of Steve's home.
A garage was added to house the company car and a window was installed to bring natural lighting to Steve's basement office.
The Kandiyohi County Fair provided an avenue for Steve to market his products.
In the fall of 1985 Steve moved the company out of his home office and into a vacated hardware store, about the size of a two-car garage, on main street in New London.
Steve hired on one other employee and they moved the 2-head, single needle machine out of his garage into the new location.
Rambow Sportswear Specialties continues to expand. Steve adds staff and more equipment to meet the needs of his growing customer base. In 1988, the business moved into the south portion of the same vacated hardware store, almost tripling their space to 1,714 square feet.
One of Steve's first manual screen print presses is shown in this location.
Steve's first direct salesman, Jon Rambow, is shown here. He still makes sure that his customers are delivered a quality product.
By 1991 Steve needed another location for his growing business. They remodeled an existing building with 9,000 square feet and became incorporated.
Additional embroidery machines were added enabling Rambow to produce larger runs in a quicker timeframe.
Rambow expands its screen print capabilities with the installation of an automatic press.
In early 1997 Rambow constructed and moved into the current facility on Rambow Parkway in New London, MN. Rambow now occupies a total of 40,000 square feet with the addition of a 4,000 square foot showroom. We are fully equipped for all embroidery and screen printing solutions with several machines and stations.
Today we employ around 50 employees, which is twice the size of Steve's original American Government class!
